Information from this Institution

Institution´s policy towards use of 14-19 Diplomas

We will consider applications from candidates offering the Advanced Diploma from 2010 entry in the Phase 1 lines of learning. Admissions tutors will wish to ensure that candidates applying with the Diploma have developed subject knowledge and study skills relevant for the course for which they have applied. Admissions tutors will therefore look at each application on an individual basis. The University will continue to review all information with regard to diploma developments. We are currently reviewing the diploma specifications published by the exam boards with a view to clarifying the approach for particular subject areas and degree courses in 2008. It is likely that some degree programmes will not accept any of the Phase 1 lines of learning, others will accept the Diploma in a particular line of learning, a number will accept the Diploma but specify particular requirements in the Additional/Specialist Learning, and some may accept all the lines of learning.

Institution´s policy towards use of the Extended Project

We value the skills of research and independent learning that the Extended Project is designed to develop and welcome applications from students offering an Extended Project alongside A levels. We will not require applicants to have undertaken an Extended Project, since students undertake this on an optional basis. If, however, an applicant offers an Extended Project, it will be taken into account as part of the individual´s application profile. Any offer may be varied as a result, in recognition of the level of study skills which will have been developed.

Institution´s policy on Unit Grades

We are aware that UCAS will be making available to institutions unit grade information for applicants who take A and AS levels. Unless a particular unit is necessary for entry to a course, unit grades will not normally be included in offers. We may, however, take account of unit grades during the period following the publication of examination results to help us decide, if there are places available, whether to accept applicants who have narrowly missed the conditions of their offers.
