Information from this Institution

Institution´s policy towards use of 14-19 Diplomas

The University of Derby welcomes the new diplomas for entry to higher education. The University is watching the development of the various diploma subjects with interest, but, in general, is currently prepared to take the level 2 diploma as the equivalent to GCSEs and the level 3 diploma as the equivalent to A levels. Offers to students taking diplomas will be made in terms of tariff points. Students should note that the Progression Award (principal plus generic/core learning) will be accepted as the equivalent of one to two A levels and will thus open access to HNDs or FDs. For entry to degrees, students are recommended to take the Advanced Diploma (principal, generic/core learning and specialist/additional learning). Applicants must note also that there are a number of degrees which require certain subject knowledge at level 3, and this will need to be translated into the specialist learning component of the Advanced Diploma.

Institution´s policy towards use of the Extended Project

Enhancements such as the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness and the Extended Project: Whilst tariff points from the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness and Extended Project will not be counted towards any offer made, the University of Derby considers that, having done these qualifications, a student will have enhanced their application and could be expected to be more prepared for study at the higher education level.

Institution´s policy on Unit Grades

The University of Derby will not make offers that incorporate Unit Grade level requirements. However, students may wish to draw attention to their own Unit Grade information if they wish to highlight particular strengths within areas of study.
