Information from this Institution

Institution´s policy towards use of 14-19 Diplomas

We will be considering the acceptability of the new Diplomas for our courses on a case-by-case basis as details of the Specialised Learning options within each Advanced Diploma are confirmed. Of the Phase 1 Diplomas, we anticipate accepting the Advanced Engineering Diploma for our Engineering course, subject to students having taken appropriate options within their Specialised Learning, but this cannot be confirmed at the time of publication. (February 2008).

Institution´s policy on Unit Grades

In order to help differentiate between the many well-qualified students applying to the University of Cambridge with A levels, achievement in particular A2 level units may also be included in a conditional offer from 2007 entry (please note that this is subject to developments at UCAS). Policies may vary from College to College and will also be dependent on the course you wish to study and your individual circumstances. You could be asked to achieve grade A in particular A2 level units you are taking or to gain a certain number of A grades in your A2 units. Please see individual College websites for more details.

Notes

Applications to the University of Cambridge comprise of a UCAS application and a Cambridge Application Form, both of which need to be received by 15 October. Please read the following guidance notes carefully.

CAMBRIDGE APPLICATION FORM In addition to submitting a UCAS application naming Cambridge as one of your choices, you MUST also submit a Cambridge Application Form (CAF) so that it is received in Cambridge by 15 October. For admission to Cambridge, it is necessary to be accepted by a College. Applications to more than one College, or to a College and also an Open application, are NOT allowed. Only one CAF may be submitted. You can obtain a CAF from your school/college, from any Cambridge College or from the Cambridge Admissions Office.

The CAF should be returned to the Admissions Office of your preference College by 15 October. In the case of an Open application only, it should be returned to the Cambridge Admissions Office.

Alternative CAFs are required for mature applicants (for those aged 21 or over) or if you are a graduate applying as an affiliated applicant for an undergraduate course. There is also a separate application form to be used by students applying for the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine.

Applicants wishing to be considered for an interview in one of the countries where overseas interviews are held (see University website) must ensure that their CAF is recieved by 20 September.

Applicants for Organ Scholarships and/or Choral Awards should note that earlier deadlines are in place. More information is available on the University´s website.

The Colleges specialising in mature students (Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund´s and Wolfson) recognise that those students on one-year Access and one-year A level courses may need to apply after the 15 October in order to supply adequate references. Please see the University website for more information and contact the Admissions Office at your chosen College for advice as soon as possible as restrictions apply.

UCAS APPLICATION Submit this to UCAS between 1 September and 15 October. You should indicate your application to Cambridge in the ´choices´ section. If you name Cambridge, you may not also name Oxford (unless applying as a graduate for an undergraduate course). In the ´campus´ section of the application, you must add the College code for the College you named on your Cambridge Application Form, or if you are submitting an Open application (ie not naming a College), you should insert 9 under ´campus code´.

COLLEGE INFORMATION You must include details of the College you wish to apply to by adding the appropriate College code or 9 for an Open application. Your form cannot be fully processed without this information. Please note Lucy Cavendish, New Hall, and Newnham are for women only; and Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund´s, and Wolfson are for mature (over 21) undergraduates only.
